If you’re a gamer, there is a very good chance that you are familiar with the Halo theme. Whether it was from the series themselves or maybe the free track released for Guitar Hero, it’s one of the more well known game themes of recent years.

Sadly, it looks like Marty O’Donnell has been fired from Bungie, allegedly without any cause whatsoever.

In a tweet released early this morning, O’Donnell says:

I’m saddened to say that Bungie’s board of directors terminated me without cause on April 11, 2014.

Seems pretty shitty to be fired without any reason, especially given he was one of the few original staff members left at Bungie after all these years. His work will still be heard on the upcoming Destiny, but it looks like he’s in need of a new studio. Perhaps he’ll return to Microsoft to work on the Halo series again, but no matter where he ends up, all of us at Save/Continue hope he finds a new home quick.

I don’t know about you, but this kinda sours my excitement over Destiny a bit.
