As it is a slow week in gaming news, Joe and Kris are joined on the SML Podcast this time by friend of the show, Christof Dowgos, to get back to basics and talk about all things gaming. Christof plays video games, makes sweet melodies, and enjoys a nice gasbag about nerdy things. He’ll fit right in with the SML dudes!

But since there isn’t much else to say about the episode, and I am in control of this news post, here are some fun facts about the number 74, as that is how many episodes our lads are up to!

In The Hunger Games novel and film, Katniss Everdeen offers herself as tribute to take the place of her sister Primrose in the 24-person deathmatch during the event’s 74th year.

Interstate 74 (I-74) is an Interstate Highway in the midwestern and southeastern United States. Its western end is at an interchange with Interstate 80 in Davenport, Iowa, and the eastern end of its Midwest segment is at an interchange with Interstate 75 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The smallest amount of U.S. coins it takes to make 74 cents is seven – one 50-cent piece, two dimes, and four pennies.

The world population in 1974 was approximately 4.012 billion.

Finally, it was in 1974 when classic title Tank found its way to video game arcades, and one of the earliest first-person shooters, Maze War, was developed for the Imlac PDS-1 at the NASA Ames Research Center in California. Neat!

With that, the music for this week is a three pack of songs from the band Rare Candy, at Christof’s request!

Rare Candy – Dark World (Zelda: A Link to the Past)
Rare Candy – Athletic (Yoshi’s Island)
Rare Candy – Summer Boss Battle (Final Fantasy IV)
