If you’re a fan of past Rare darlings like the original Donkey Kong Country and Banjo Kazooie games, listen up. A new development team of 6 former Rare employees (who racked up more than 100 years combined with the company) have banded together to form Playtonic Games, and they’ve just announced “Project Ukelele.” The group states,

Together, our all-star ensemble is aiming to build its debut game, ‘Project Ukulele’, into a worthy spiritual successor to those fondly remembered platforming adventures we built in the past.

Since their announcement a few days ago, the latest issue of Edge Magazine has released, which contains the first details on the game.

You can see from the scan above that Playtonic is interested in bringing the game to Steam Early Access as soon as possible, to get it in the hands of gamers right away. That doesn’t mean it will be coming next week, as they are still in the early stages of development, but it’s worth noting.

The image also shows off the first two characters to be featured in Project Ukulele, as well as four silhouettes that we can only guess what they might look like.

At any rate, this certainly seems to be something to keep your eyes on. We’ll be sure to bring you more updates as they arise. For now, you can get a look at more concept art and the team’s vision in March’s issue of Edge Magazine.
