Fans of the Fatal Frame franchise outside of Japan have been left high and dry without a new addition to the series since the PS2’s Fatal Frame III: The Tormented released an entire decade ago. Faithful followers begged and pleaded for Fatal Frame IV to come stateside, to no avail. More recently a group called Operation Zero has been campaigning to get the latest entry, Fatal Frame V: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden, to come outside its home country.

Thanks to Tomonobu Itagaki, creator of the currently in-production Devil’s Third, Operation Zero and many other fans (myself included!) have been given hope. He recently commented on the game, saying the following:

Hey guys, I strongly believe that Kikuchi Keisuke will release the Fatal Frame V in America, in many countries. He and me have same philosophy from Tecmo days. That’s what I can say for now. I want you guys to read between the lines.
Anyway I will play this game.

Obviously this is far from a confirmation or official statement, especially since Itagaki isn’t even tied to the project. But he is, in fact, close friends with Keisuke, so he very well may know something we don’t. All we can do right now is cross our fingers and hope (and maybe stop by Operation Zero to support their efforts!).
